Here are front wheel drive cars which were available in the U.S. for 1970. I’m sure I missed something, so contribute if you can think of one.

In no particular order:

Kinja'd!!!

Hondas, N and Z 600. The Civic was still a couple years away.

Kinja'd!!!

The Subaru Star (which is about the rarest Subaru in the U.S., harder to find than either the 360 which preceded it, or the 1300 which followed it).

Kinja'd!!!

Renault R16 (all of Renault other U.S. spec models were rear engined still)

Kinja'd!!!

Simca.

Kinja'd!!!

Citroen (I don’t think the 2cv was available after 1967 for safety reasons... I think the Mehari was though, since it was technically a truck).

Kinja'd!!!

Austin America

Kinja'd!!!

Oldsmobile Toronado (and Cadillac Eldorado (not imports, but awesome cars))

Kinja'd!!!

Fiat 128.

What am I missing?

Yeah, the Honda and the SAAB are probably the most common. I haven’t even ever seen a 128 or a Star (although I have seen the 1300G version in a junkyard). And of the other imports, the only one I’ve seen more than once in my life is the Citroen DS.

Lancia Fulvia in at least its coupe and sport forms. I’m actually unsure if the berlina was sold here new but can’t see why not.

Did they sell any Minis in the States around this time?

Kinja'd!!!

Also, Audi was introduced to the USA in MY1970. Add the Audi 100 to your list.

Kinja'd!!!

And heck, the NSU Ro80 too. The US sealed beam lights really don’t suit these.

The Mini was out after 1967 (I guess they didn’t want to comply with safety regs). Totally forgot about the RO-80 and Audi (for some reason I was thinking Audi appeared when the Dasher came over).

I have always been fascinated with the N600 for some odd reason
